In the midst of turbulent political and socio-economic times, women around the world are harnessing their collective energy to create change, and are rising to take on leadership roles across all sectors of society. This September, First Ladies and women leaders will gather to share best practices and present their visions for our shared future during a daylong summit, The Future of Women.
The event, held alongside the United Nations General Assembly in New York, will be co-hosted by the Global First Ladies Alliance, Facebook, MAC AIDS Fund and OkayAfrica, and will feature tangible solutions for creating more equitable societies, host working sessions on women’s empowerment, and explore the role of technology and social media in amplifying voices and impacting positive change.
During the event, we will also celebrate the work of rising African women leaders in the area of Tech, Social Impact and Creative Entrepreneurship with the announcement of the GFLA #theFutureofWomen 2017 Award recipients. Throughout the day, a global audience will be invited to connect to conversations via Facebook’s Live Stream via OkayAfrica’s Facebook page.
Attendees will include African First Ladies and established and rising women leaders from across the globe, and select guests from the fields of development, politics, business and the creative arts.
