“As First Ladies, we are in a unique position to improve the lives of women and girls in our countries… Together, I know we can overcome the obstacles still before us, and ensure our daughters and granddaughters, and our sons and grandsons have the opportunities they deserve.”

Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States,
during the GFLA 2011 Summit

Development programs are most effective when designed in close partnership with local and regional leaders, and led by those who know their populations best. First Ladies, often referred to as the mothers of their countries, are well placed to help design and lead effective programs.

Since 2008, our team has enabled partnerships between First Ladies’ Offices and governments, foundations, businesses, non-profits, and other international and regional actors in their efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and gender equality.
